Search tips.
I use the same search system on both
chomalfoyfics and
firmament. The following are the links as they correspond on Dreamwidth and an explanation of the types of posts I will use in the community.
Last updated: 7/29/10
Types of posts
1. Story posts. Posts including my fanfic stories are the most common in the community. They're easy to pick out because they contain the name of the story, the fandom, the rating, and either the category or main pairing/grouping in the story in the title, and I use a story heading before the cut.
2. Monthly digests. Every month, I write a post containing the stories written for the month, links of interests (recs, author notes, etc.), and some status notes on my current projects. I also do a yearly post that serves a similar purpose.
3. Recommendation (rec) posts. These aren't as common in the community anymore, but some old ones still exist. I moved the majority of my recs to my personal journal, since the readership is higher there.
4. Moderator (mod) posts. Simply put, these are posts I write when I make changes to the community or need to point out any details. This is a mod post, for instance.
Search methods
Project list: The easiest way to search for the stories. Stories are organized into frequently written fandoms, with the most common on top, and the rest are organized alphabetically by fandom. The stories in each fandom are organized by posting date, with the most recent posted on top.
Tags: Every post contains a few major categorical tags to assist in navigation:
-Story posts: Story posts use the most tags. These include the fandom, the rating of the story, the genre that the story falls into (this is more commonly used for stories that don't have pairings), the major pairing/grouping of a story, the fanfic challenge the story was written for, and/or a tag for the story itself for stories with multiple parts.
-The rest: The monthly digest tag, the rec post tag, the mod post tag, the reference tag.
Memories: Due to the limited nature of tags, story posts are organized in the memories by fandom and rating. Mod posts have several different subsections for type, most of which are also used in the tag system, but there's a couple extra categories: fic and art favorites by others, and posts relating to my work outside the community. Memories only work on Dreamwidth for Dreamwidth-related pages, so there's different extra-community links in
firmament and
chomalfoyfics.
Calendar: The calendar is the easiest way to make chronological searches for stories.
